Punjab’s E-Taxi project gets approval, pilot to begin with 1,100 electric taxis

The Punjab government has advanced its highly expected e-taxi project and approved a pilot phase of 1,100 electric taxis and solar-powered charging stations that will soon be launched.

A special meeting led by Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was held to undergo mass transport projects.

During the session, the feasibility report from the yellow line Mass transport system was presented and participants were informed of the province’s environmentally friendly E-taxi initiative.

The meeting assigned to principle approval for the project’s financial model and agreed to launch a pilot program involving 1,100 electric taxis. It was also decided to install solar-powered systems for e-charging stations.

In addition, the authorities have requested a report on new routes to the mass transport system in Gujranwala.

Main Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed officials to determine routes based on public convenience and ordered the construction of the Yellow Line project, from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura, began without delay.

The meeting also included a detailed review of the e-taxi project. During the briefing, it was revealed that the Punjab government would offer subsidies under the e-taxi scheme. A proposal to establish charging stations together with petrol pumps was also discussed.

Previously, CM Maryam Nawaz ordered free treatment of patients returning from India due to tension in bilateral conditions.

Following the recent outbreak between both countries, Pakistani patients were sent back from India without the end of their treatment.
