- Google’s Android 16 Beta includes new battery health tools
- It has apparently confused that they will be exclusive for pixel 8 and newer devices
- We may be learning more on Google I/O on May 20, 2025
One of the most useful features that come to Devices with Android 16 will be new battery -health tools found in your Pixel phone settings app -and we now know which devices will get them when they start for everyone.
Android 16 is likely to be detailed on Google I/O, but before then some software -betas are careful to carefully in some of its features.
This includes new battery health capacities.
The main tool is a state at the top of the battery health page that represents your phone’s current maximum battery capacity as a percentage of what a new standard battery capacity would be. For example, if it reads 93%, it is Google that says your phone’s 100% charging corresponds to a new battery (it is otherwise identical) to be 93% charged.
It also emphasizes whether your phone’s battery health is normal or not – all batteries deteriorate over time, but you know if it is degrading faster than it should be – as well as links to articles that can improve your battery health.
Better battery, better life
It does not necessarily add new protective measures – such as Google Pixel 9a’s battery health aid – but it should nevertheless be a practical tool to contextualize why battery health measures are useful, and offer you useful tips if you are struggling to look after your phone’s battery.
So it’s a shame to find that according to Google in an Android 16 Beta Bug Report (via, the feature currently “supported in Beta 3 on Pixel 8A and Pixel 9 products, including 9 Pro Fold”, does not come to older pixel units due to “product restrictions.”
Google’s phrasing strongly suggests that only Pixel 8 phones and newer get the latest battery health tools – it lets the door open to it to get to older devices when the Android 16 is fully launched even if we do not hold our breath.
Battery health is one of the least flashy but most useful tool updates can provide.
Whether you replace your phone every two years or every fifth, knowing that your device will be as reliable as possible as long as possible is something we all appreciate. After all, no one likes the moments of terror as your phone’s battery ticks down at the worst possible time.
Alongside battery changes, Android 16 will include a larger visual update, a new and improved desktop mode and USB hack protection.
