Sony’s latest flagship headphones delicious everywhere. Over the weekend, the Walkman blog reported that the Sony WH-1000XM6 was scheduled for a May release; Two days later, a list of the new headphones accidentally appeared on Amazon Spain with some key specifications. And now there is another leak that seems to be a photo that we have included below.
The news comes via notebookcheck.net, which discovered that the image (below) was leaked on Reddit. And while it is hardly hi-res, it shows enough details to confirm one of the most important details of the Amazon Spain link: a return to the collapsible hinges of the XM4 that Sony fell for the WH-1000XM5.

The lack of a folding hinge was something we noticed in our Sony WH-1000XM5 review, which concluded that this makes them “a little big when it comes to storing them away” and that if you would have a “really on-the-go pair of headphones” you need to consider Sony’s WF-1000XM4 in-Aars (now followed by WF-1000XM5, and maybe one Xm6s) as an alternative.
It seems that the incoming WH-1000XM6 flags could again offer a more travel-friendly design than their predecessors along with some other new features …
Sony WH-1000XM6: What we know so far
Amazon leakage included a price of € 470 including tax; Without it is about € 439. It is approx. $ 499 / £ 439 / AU $ 770, which tracks: rumors suggested that we would see a price increase with this new version. The current model was launched at $ 399 / £ 380 / AU $ 649.
The Amazon Note Detailed a new QN3 processor, several microphones for noise reduction and a new magnetic case. It also listed a 10-band equalizer, 30-hour battery life and 30mm drivers-less than those in the XM5. The list also promises 360-degree audio collection to create surround sound.
The Marketing Text from the Amazon Note, as the Screenshot of the Walkman blog, also includes some practical details. We can apparently expect “new HD-Damping Processor QN3 and 12 microphones”, a “new headband” that is “even more comfortable and safe than the previous model” and “six al-driven microphones” that use all noise reduction to filter unwanted sounds.
So while the rumored price increase is not good news, it sounds like the Sony WH-1000XM6 could still deliver some worthy upgrades and we should hear about them all officially during their launch this month.
