Water storage in larger reservoirs tops 3 maf

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) said on Sunday that the country’s total usable water storage in three major reservoirs – Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma – and others topped 3,021,000 acre feet.

A WAPDA spokesman said the water inflow in the Indus River was 131,100 CUSERCS at Tarbela against an outflow of 82,000 CUSSCS, as the level in the reservoir reached 1,459,21 feet and had a storage of 1,386,000 acre feet.

The spokesman added that the water level in the shortage reservoir was 1,142.30 feet with water storage of 1,418,000 acre feet, while the level in the Chashma reservoir was recorded on 647.10 feet with storage of 217,000 acre feet.

“The inflow and outflow of water into the river Indus at Tarbela and Chashma, the Kabul River at Nowshera and the Jhelum River by Marda is based on 24-hour average flow, while reading the flow and outflow of water in other places is taken at 6 [Sunday]”He said.

With detailed details, the spokesman stated that the water inflow in the Jhelum River was 52,400 CUSSCS by Marda, while the outflow was 32,000 CUSSCS. The influx of Chashma Barrage was 143,800 CUSSCS, and the outflow was 114,000 CUSSCS.

He said the inflow in the Chenab River at the head Marala was 33,100 CUSSCS against the outflow of 13,700 CUSERCS, the influx of the Kabul River at Nowshera was 44,700 CUSSCS and the outflow was 44,700 CUSSCS.
