WWE SummerSlam will be a two-night event for the first time in its story when the Premium Live event takes place at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, later this summer.

For Zelina Vega it will be a return of the kind.

The current woman’s American champion grew up with two rivers to the east in Queens, New York, but got her legs under her as a wrestler in the Garden State, specifically in Union City.

“I’m training at Arena in Jersey for a while,” Vega shared with Pakinomist Digital in a recent conversation. “Me and AJ Lee actually trained together in Jersey, and it also helped me kind of me to be prepared for the role, if I want to be honest, in ‘Fighting with my family’ to play her. It was just getting to know her and applying it now and seeing it where it all went down.

“But yes, I spent a lot of time in New Jersey training and just the whole New York/New Jersey feeling, it was just where I was constantly coming when I came.”

Vega won the women’s American championship in a match against Chelsea Green after Wrestlemania 41. The title was added to the menu as another option for the loaded woman’s list of “smackdown.” The “raw” list has the women’s intercontinental championship.

Vega told Pakinomist Digital earlier that she hoped that WWE would add a Midcard title to the fold, and now she is holding the belt – the first single championship in her career in the company.

“It feels amazing … When I grew up, I just wanted to be part of it,” she said. “And of course I wanted to be a master. I did this huge thing in my mind when I was a kid I was like, ‘I become a master, this will happen to me.’ I didn’t see a plan B in my mind.

“Now it’s like, not only have you done it, not only you are a master, you are also part of the story. The first queen of the ring that I never thought it would happen. So it’s still shocked me, but also eight -year -old Thea, there was like trying to get all that was sorted in my mind. I didn’t see a plan B, I was so offensive. So to prove her right, it feels like the most amazing feeling.

Vega, so confident as ever that she wants to go into SummerSlam as a master, could also afford the young girls looking up at her.

“It’s just, never give up on you because you want so many nos, you want so many people that give you reasons why you shouldn’t be a master, why you shouldn’t do it where you want to be,” she explained to Pakinomist Digital. “But as long as you don’t give up on you, no one will stop you.

“You don’t take ‘no’ to an answer and you don’t give up on yourself. If I can do this and I can stand here as a master, it must be proved in so many people’s minds that your own determination is what will get you where you need to be.”

“It’s our first ever two-night summer sludge, which is crazy because it’s usually just wrestlemania,” she said. “There’s a lot of hum about it. The whole week is really amazing because it’s in just where I was growing up. So it’s pretty cool to feel it’s an upcoming home feeling, whether ‘raw’, ‘smackdown’, and then it’s two-day summer sludge. It will be really fun.”
