During his nearly two decades at the helm, Mike Tomlin has coached Pittsburgh Steelers for a Super Bowl title and consistently considered one of NFL’s best coaches.

While Steelers is one of the league’s most reported franchises, the organization is used to flame out in the post -season in recent years. Tomlin has been Steelers’ main coach since the 2007 season. He has never completed a regular season with a losing record, but it is now eight years since he led a team to victory in an end game.

In the midst of Pittsburgh’s recent disappointments, the former Steelers star and the current ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark offered his thoughts about Tomlin’s coaching future.

Clark began by making it clear that Tomlin should not be forced out of his position.

“I think Mike Tomlin is impenetrable,” Clark said at ESPN. “I think if Mike Tomlin goes away from being a coach of Pittsburgh Steelers, it should be his decision. And I’ve said time and time again: I think that should be the decision he makes.”

Clark then urged his former coach to move on to another NFL team where he could be seen as a “fresh voice.” He also suggested that the coach’s message no longer resonates with the current players in Steelers’ dressing room.

“I think Mike Tomlin should train in another organization,” Clark continued. “Mike Tomlin should be a fresh voice somewhere else. Because … as big as a coach as he is and he is a first-ballot hall of famer, I think his voice has run out of date there. I think he has allowed the team to reach the highest heights they will reach unless they can get a top-title quarterback.”

The level of Quarterback plays that Steelers gets in the 2025 season is likely to have a significant impact on their success. Pittsburgh’s quarterback room currently contains players with more questions than answers.

Mason Rudolph left Steelers after the 2023 season and joined the Tennessee Titans. Quarterback threw nine touchdowns against nine interceptions over eight games in 2024. Except for Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Rookie Will Howard are the only other quarterbacks under contract with Steelers.

Howard led Ohio State to the National Championship in January. Pittsburgh thrown him off in the sixth round last month.

Steelers has shown interest in Veteran -quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The four-time NFL MVP has met with Steelers’ Front Office and Coaches, but he has not yet made an official decision on his football future.
