Islamabad:
Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said he accepted the government’s offer of political dialogue in his capacity as party chairman, but excluded the opportunity for any agreement.
In a speech with the media outside the House of Parliament, Barrister Gohar said PTI has always kept the negotiating doors open. He noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expanded an offer for dialogue on the floor of the house, which he accepted as PTI chairman.
“I assured the government that I would convey the message to the PTI founder and party leadership,” said Gohar.
However, he refused to share any details of his meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan about the offer and called it an internal party.
He emphasized that Imran Khan would not be part of any agreement with the government.
In response to a question about the recent rare media appearance of Imran Khan’s children, Gohar said he was happy with their interview and noticed that they had conveyed in a dignified way that their father was not willing to compromise.
He added that the PTI founder never instructed his children or party leaders to pursue any agreement on his release from prison. He said he does not share questions related to the PTI founder with someone.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, refused categorical reports that suggest PTI’s willingness to hold conversations with the government. She said she had no idea where the news came from.
“When we asked the PTI founder about it, he rejected the claim,” said Aleema, claiming that PML-N had stolen the public mandate and formed the government. “What’s there to discuss with those who stole the mandate?” She asked.
Aleema also pointed out that Imran is imprisoned in Punjab’s adiala prison, and that all cases against him are being pursued in the same province. She said the 26th change was introduced specifically to deny him justice.
“I was told in Peshawar that Shehbaz Sharif has held conversations with Imran Khan. I was surprised to learn it. Later it turned out that Shehbaz had spoken to barist Gohar,” Aleema noted.
She said there is only one chairman of PTI, and it is Imran Khan who gives all directives regarding party issues, which added lawyer Gohar received the chairman’s submissions only to convey messages.
In addition, PTI leader Naeem Haider Panjutha also rejected reports on PTI’s agreement with the government and said such reports are intended to secure high assessments. The PTI founder takes people in confidence before taking some steps, and he does not enter into agreements behind closed doors, Panjutha said.
