A severe heat wave continues to grab most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures expected to remain significant over the normal over the weekend, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
A strong high -pressure system prevailing in the upper atmosphere drives the extreme conditions that are expected to continue for at least three to four days more.
Day temperatures are likely to hover 5 to 7 ° C over seasonal average in northern and central regions-Inclusive Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltist-Upto 19 May.
In the southern half, including Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan, temperatures are expected to remain 4 to 6 ° C above the normal through 20 May.
On Friday and Saturday, most areas are expected to experience very hot and dry conditions, where southern and central districts are especially affected.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed nationwide with very hot conditions in the plains.
The highest temperatures recorded were 48 ° C in Turn Cat and DADU and 47 ° C in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Larger urban centers such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Peshawar are expected to experience daily heights between 40 ° C and 48 ° C throughout the weekend.
Coastal cities like Karachi will remain warm and humid, while domestic districts such as Dadu and Mohenjo-Daro can see heights above 50 ° C.
Authorities advise the public to remain hydrated, avoid outdoor activities in the peak load and take heatwave conditions, especially for vulnerable populations.
