Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were transferred from Kot Lakhpat Prison to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) Saturday after having some chest pain, officials said.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi was moved to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) shortly after dawn.
Qureshi, who has been in custody since August 2023, experienced discomfort after Fajr beans. Prison doctors conducted an initial assessment, but his condition did not improve, which led to a transfer via rescue 1122, according to his lawyer, Rana Mudassar.
The hospital staff provided immediate medical attention and performed several diagnostic tests to assess his condition. No further update has been released on his status.
The PTI-Vice President faces several charges in connection with riots from May 9, 2023. In July 2024, he was indicted by an anti-terrorism court in a case of the alleged attack and arson at the Shadman police station.
Previously held in Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi, Qureshi was moved to Kot Lakhpat Prison last year due to logistical concerns about the frequent court’s appearances in Lahore.
He has not pleaded guilty to all charges.
