Wyndham Clark had a regrettable last round of this last weekend’s PGA championship.
The 2023 US Open winner responded to a poor tee shot on Sunday by dangerously launching his driver in signage near the tee box. Clark had just committed a bogey before hitting his tee shot to the right of the 16th hole.
Clark did not wait for the shot to land before he fiercely threw the club, which narrowly missed hitting a volunteer holding a flag.

The driver left a noticeable hole in the sign. The driver was also damaged where the club’s head broke off. Clark replied by throwing some of the broken club to the side, which eventually left both pieces of the driver behind as he went against the golf ball in the bunker.

On Monday, Clark said his “actions were unsolicited” and promised to make improvements.
“I will sincerely apologize for my behavior yesterday at Hole 16,” Clark said in a post to X. “As professionals we are expected to remain professional even when they are frustrated and unfortunately I let my feelings get the best of me. My actions were unsolicited and completely inappropriate, which makes it clear that I have things I need to work on.”

Clark also admitted that he “came short” of the “high standard” he sticks to.
“I stick to a high standard and always try to play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I came to these standards. For that, I’m really sorry. I promise to improve the way I handle my frustrations in the course and hope you can all forgive me in a timely manner.”
