Tax deficiencies are asking excise duties to increase recovery

The Department of Executive Tax, Taxation and Drugs have intensified its commercial and domestic property tax recovery campaign in the Rawal Pindi zone following a 55 percent loss in real estate, professional and luxury tax collections.

In one step to speeding up the collections, the secretary of excise duties and taxation has introduced an immediate ban on transfers and leave to excise inspectors and field staff until June 30.

Property Tax Offices also remain open on weekends during the month of June. The Director -General of Excise and Taxation has issued strict directives to ensure that all tax goals are met at the end of June.

Collections of Property Tax in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum districts are reportedly 50-54 percent below the targets, while the recently appointed tourist district in Murree, known as Malika Kohsar, has registered a deficit of up to 60 percent.

In response, the department has launched a large -scale operation that seals 126 defaulted property units and recover a total of RS2.89 million in outstanding taxes.

Seven excise and tax officers in the Rawal Pindi zone have been served showing the reason why the effectiveness, discipline and accountability of the Punjab employees (PEEDA) so as not to fulfill recovery goals and may face dismissal.
