Famous Pakistani playwright Khalilur-Rehman Qamar turned to Lahore High Court on Tuesday to overthrow a trial’s decision in the case regarding his abduction. Qamar filed an appeal against the acquittal of the defendant, including Aamna Uroj.

According to legal sources, the appeal was filed through lawyer Mudassir Chaudhry, who requested the Supreme Court to defer Court of Justice and secure penalties for the defendants in accordance with the law.

The petition claimed that the defendants had confessed to the crimes for the police under interrogation, but the trial failed to correctly assess the facts and evidence presented.

He argued that the judgment of the lower court was deficient and did not reflect the severity of the offenses.

The case stems from a high -profile incident on July 15, 2024, when Qamar was allegedly abducted and robbed after being lured to Amina Arooj’s residence under the pretext of discussing a drama project. He was released after a ransom payment and reported the crime on July 21.

The case involves serious allegations of kidnapping and extortion, where Qamar maintained that he was a victim of a targeted honey trap orchestrated by the defendant.

His legal team claims he was held by armed men by force.

However, Amina Arooj’s lawyer contests the narrative and says Qamar’s Manager initiated contact under professional prerequisites that later became personal and claimed inappropriate demands from Qamar.

Earlier, Anti-Terrorism Court Amina Arooj and 11 Co-accused accused, including Hasan Shah and Tanveer Ahmed. The Challan, presented by the Prosecutor’s Office, declared all 12 people guilty, based on the investigation.

The case will be heard by Judge Arshad Javed, with the next hearing set for December 20, when prosecution is expected to testify.
