Islamabad:
The PTI lawyer withdrew his petition in a case relating to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) the judges’ transfer and seniority case after the constitutional bench (CB) reprimanded him over its inconsistent language.
The case was heard by a five-member CB, led by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and including Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Shakeel Ahmed. Attorney Idrees Ashraf, who represented the PTI founder, continued his arguments.
At one point, justice asked Shahid Bilal Hassan the lawyer to read paragraph. 4 in the petition and questioned, “What have you written? Has any political leader in the country’s history ever filed such a petition?” He added: “My inclination is to reject the petition with a fine.”
Justice Mazhar noted that the contents of the petition was embarrassing to the Supreme Court’s judges. “If such words were used about me, I would also have felt ashamed,” said Justice Mazhar, referring to the contents of the petition.
