- Netflix support for first-genes Four TV ends in June
- Older Fire -Tv units can’t play more modern video codeCs
- Try Amazon Trade-in to get money from a newer model
After a decade, Netflix ends up for the first generation of brand TV streaming devices. From June 3, 2025, first generation versions of the following models will no longer be Netflix-Compatible:
- Four TV (2014)
- Four TV Stick (2014)
- Four TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016)
The message that Netflix has e -mailed its customers about is not a huge surprise: Amazon has not updated them for any time now, and the early four TV devices do not support the most modern video and audio formats.
Even in 2023, some users at FIRETV SUBDRDIT advised against buying them new.
Why do Netflix stop support for the four TV models?
Netflix has not said specifically, but the most likely explanation is that the devices do not support audio and video codecs used by Netflix. As PC World, whose sister title PC-Welt broke the news, reported: “It could have something to do with Netflix using newer standards-such as AV1 Codec-to stream with better image quality, especially for customers who are on the Premium plan.” The now -discinated devices cannot be upgraded to support newer codecs.
If you are the owner of one of the affected models and want to keep streaming Netflix, buy one of the current intervals instead. And as always with Amazon devices, try not to pay full price for it: Amazon discounts constantly four TV devices all year round and I would not be surprised if the retailer responds to Netflix News by discounting them accordingly. At the time of writing, my preferred upgrade is 33% discount in the US among Memorial DAY offers.
If I upgraded from an old fire -tv unit, I would skip over 2023 four TV -stick 4K and go for four TV -stick 4K max. There is not a huge price difference-the non-Max version has an official price of $ 49.99 / £ 59.99 / AU $ 79, while Max is $ 59.99 / £ 69.99 / AU $ 119. For a little more you get more storage, a faster processor, better wi-fi and Amazon’s surrounding experience.
In the US, this model went down to $ 39.99 four times this year – including today, May 21 For British customers, Max has been reduced to £ 50 or less than three times this year so far.
