UN Security Council condemns Khuzdar school bus attack

The United Nations Security Council has heavily condemned the terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least seven Pakistanis, including five schoolchildren. At least 52 others, including 38 children, were injured in the attack.

In response to the attack, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have intensified security in schools throughout the province.

The Department of Education has been formally warned with a directive issued to district education managers to improve security measures at all educational institutions.

In a press release, the Security Council expressed its deepest compassion for the victims’ families as well as the Pakistani government and people. The council also wanted a quick recovery for the wounded.

The Council confirmed that terrorism in all forms poses a serious threat to international peace and security. It called for the perpetrator’s, organizers, financiers and sponsors of such attacks and called on states to cooperate with Pakistan to bring the responsible parties to justice.

The declaration reiterated that terrorism is unjustified, regardless of the motive, and emphasized the need for all countries to fight terrorism on all available funds under international law.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also condemned the terrorist attack on a school bus in Khuzdar and called it a violation of basic human rights and international law.

HRCP emphasized the need for the state to tackle questions in Balochistan through political dialogue and legal measures rather than violent answers while calling for identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.

International reactions included strong condemnations from the United States and China. The US Embassy in Islamabad expressed grief over the murder of innocent children and emphasized that no child should fear going to school.

Chinese ambassador Jiang Zaidong also condemned the attack and repeated China’s support to Pakistan in counteracting terrorism and ensuring social stability.

Khuzdar School bus attack

The suspected bombers hit an explosively stressed vehicle into the school bus as it drove past Zero Point near the Rakhshan Hotel, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Iqbal Dashti said, adding that the bus ferries students to Army Public School located in the Khuzdar canon. The vehicle was rigged with more than 30 kg of explosives, according to the bombing team.

The military’s media wing stated that “three innocent children and two adults have embraced Shahadat”, and several children have inflicted injuries in “Cowardly and Ghastly Attack planned and orchestrated by the terrorist state India and executed by its proxy in Balochistan.

ISPR added that India has detached its proxies to spread terror and turmoil in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa through such abhorrent and feige acts after miserably failed on the battlefield.

Shortly after the deadly attack, the security forces were closed the area and launched a study. Security was tightened in and around Khuzdar after the bombing, with control points established and patrols intensified to prevent further attacks.
