Indy 500: Alexander Rossi’s car goes up in flames in Rober

The Indycar driver Alexander Rossi had an incredible day in the Indianapolis 500 when he competed against the front of the package, but it all ended for a moment.

On the lap 73, Rossi’s vehicle began to leak fluid from behind. It created problems for Alex Palou, who was immediately behind Rossis No. 20. Rossi went into the grobs and was told that the crew would take a minute to find out what was going on with his car.

Rossi pulled into his pit box and his car was covered with flames. He rushed out of his cockpit when officials came over to extinguish the fire. Rossi got out of the car and threw the gloves down to the ground.

Rossi’s fuel Mike Miller also had to be observed as he still had flames on him in the grobs. He seemed to be ok when the question was taken care of.

“Fortunately, Mike is OK too. It’s always a terrible situation and it’s so disappointing,” Rossi told Fox from his pit box. “It was such a phenomenal racing car and the team made a big decision to stay out there when the first split happened to the strategy and all we did on 20 Java House stand was great. That’s what is so painful about this day is that you have to have so many things to go right. It’s just disappointing because it’s another opportunity to go.”

Rossi said the temperature of the gearbox began to rise as the race went on and he thought it was at least one of the reasons his vehicle went up in flames.

Rossi won the race in 2016. He finished fourth in 2024 and fifth in 2023 and 2022.
