Multan:
An ongoing heat wave over South Punjab has triggered a sharp increase in skin disorders.
A skin specialist, Dr. Waqas Arqam Malik, said the heat and sweat contributed to the spread of fungal infections, rashes, body odor problems and acne flare.
He added that blocked sweat pores provide a breeding ground for bacteria and mushrooms, especially in people with oily or sensitive skin.
Patients suffering from prickly heat, forearm infections, foot fungus and rashes in body folds are visiting clinics in increasing numbers.
If not treated, such conditions can lead to pigmentation and recurrent skin inflammation, the doctor added.
He advised people to maintain personal hygiene by taking showers twice a day under intense sweat, using antifungal powders in skin folds and avoiding heavy creams and makeup that can block pores.
He recommended to wear light -colored, loosely appropriate cotton clothing, remain hydrated and changing sweaty clothes regularly.
He also advised to avoid direct sunlight between 7 p.m. 11 and 16 and apply sunscreen before stepping outdoors.
