- 1-bit Rainbow offers the smallest classic Mac on the market
- It has a two-inch screen and driven by a Pico Zero Raspberry Pi
- You can buy a fully unified device for just $ 59
You may have heard the term “small form factor-PC” to describe computers that are smaller than the average rich, but someone has just taken the SFFPC concept to a whole new level with a working Mac that has a screen that measures only two inches across.
Pico-Mac-Nano, which was appropriately called Pico-Mac-Nano, has a 3D rainbow with a 3D-printed chassis that faithfully recreates the classic Macintosh look from the 1980s, albeit on a minute scale.
On the inside, the device is driven by a Pico Zero Raspberry Pi while packing in a two-inch 480p screen for some unpleasant reading, plus 512MB memory, a microSD card castle for storage and a three-volt CR2 battery. It runs the Micromac 128K emulator that gives the vintage Mac operating system flavor. This means it is a fully functioning computer even if it is actually practical is another matter.
You can buy the full total Pico-Mac-Nano for only $ 59 (about £ 44 / AU $ 92)-so much for the Apple tax. Alternatively, 1-bit Rainbow has delivered the 3D printing files if you want to print your own case yourself and flash a regular Pico Raspberry Pi yourself.
There is even a special Collector’s edition of Pico-Mac-Nano that comes in a small scale replica of Apple’s original ‘Picasso’ Macintosh shipping box. This version sets you back on a modest $ 78 (or about £ 58 / AU $ 122).
A real little form factor mac
As someone who loves and owns both an SFFPC and a Mac, I always keep an eye on fascinating projects that can bridge both worlds.
However, this device may take a little too far for me. I can’t imagine i could run many of the best mac games on it – remember ”it can run Crysis?, “Maybe we should ask” can it run chess? “
There is still no doubt that this product is an incredible performance and shows what can be done with modern hardware and software. Whether you want to 3D print it yourself, you still get your hands on a neat little project that gets a faithful NIKK for old Macs.
So if the little M4 MAC Mini isn’t quite small enough for you, Pico-Mac-Nano might be making the rush. Just don’t expect it to deal with Deepseek R1’s big language model soon.
