Practical magic 2 is on the way, and given that it is almost 30 years since we enjoyed the original in 1998, it is practically magical news – especially because Warner Bros. has already confirmed the release date as September 18, 2026.
Will Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Reprise their iconic roles? Yes, they will definitely. The sequel is set to bring back at least that much of the original magic of the original, with both Sally and Gillian Owens played by the original actors.
Marked as a theater release first, it will almost certainly arrive at HBO MAX after that, like a Warner movie – the original Practical magic has found his home there.

Practical magic 2 Will arrive in theaters on September 18, 2026. The news was confirmed by an official post on X in May by Warner Bros, accompanied by some magical words from the film’s stars, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.
They can be heard recite a magic form: “Tands of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the magic form begin to mix. September 18, 2026.”
While it says “only in theaters,” it is completely but constant to come to HBO Max after it, as it is Warner Bros. Discovery’s official streaming platform. That’s where the original 1998 Practical magic Just fallen too if you want to remind yourself of the magic.
Practical Magic 2: Has a trailer been released?
There is no official Practical magic 2 Trailer yet, which is not surprising considering that the role crew and the crew have not announced any message of filming.
During an interview with Variety in February, however, Kidman revealed that the sequel “moves quickly” before closing further questions. I will be sure to update here when an official trailer falls.
Practical Magic 2: Confirmed Role Crew
So far as Practical magic 2 Castlist goes, it’s pretty sparse. But there are two crucial actors who will reprise their role, as reported by Variety:
- Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens
- Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens
It feels like Practical magic 2 Would not be possible without the return of Bullock and Kidman as Owens’ Sisters, so this casting message that comes hand in hand with revealing the film’s existence, makes total sense (and is a Fight relief).
To bind the role crew perfectly together, we wonder if Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest will also recreate their iconic roles such as Aunt Franny and Aunt Jet. Both women are still trading, despite being 81 and 77 years old respectively.
However, there is an important crew member returning, and it is Akiva Goldsman who co-wrote the original Practical magic. And he is officially back on board to write Practical magic 2.
Finally, but not yet confirmed, Joey King is reportedly “in conversations” to play Sally’s daughter (as per variety), and we will go down more in the importance of this role in the plot section below.
Practical Magic 2: Story Synopsis and Rumors

The original Practical magic Film in 1998 is based on the first novel in the famous series of author, Alice Hoffman. It followed Sally and Gillian, two reluctant witch sisters bred by their aunts in a small town that tackles a curse that could prevent them from finding love.
And when they grow up, they use their gift of practical magic to try to break the miserable curse for good.
So when it comes to the plot Practical magic 2It marks a return to the books. Hoffman’s series consists of four novels; Practical magic (1995)The rules of magic (2017)Magic lessons (2020) and The book of magic (2021). And Entertainment Weekly revealed exclusively in July 2024 to The book of magic would be the basis of the successor’s plot.
In a talk with EW said producer Denise Di Novi: “I think [fans are] will be very happy. We become very faithful. We are aware of how important these characters and that movie are for so many people. We will not reinvent the wheel. “
We know from the official book synopsis that this, the fourth in Hoffman’s series, follows “Three Generations of Owens women and a long lost brother”, as well as the “younger generation” including Kylie Owens, daughter of Sally.
And of course there are already conversations about throwing Sally’s daughter, but I will not go into the depth of the synopsis of this book further for fear of revealing too much. I don’t want the same generational intercourse that haunts the Owens family coming down on me.
Will there be more practical magic films?
Never never say. While there is no suggestion that more Practical magic Movies are on the way, I can’t say with certainty that this marks the ending. Once that said, in view of that Practical magic 2 is based on Alice Hoffman’s decisive novel in her series, then for Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman’s story at least it feels … yes, decisive.
But while another movie might be out of the question, what about a TV show? The two prequel -novels that came in between Practical magic and The book of magic has been a focus on earlier, even if they failed, attempt to bring Practical magic Back to life.
The latest of HBO Max as it hoped to create a TV series in 2019. Set to focus on aunts, Franny and Jet, it couldn’t get the green light, but maybe Practical magic 2 Can bring the magic back to life?
I can imagine that it all depends on the success of the movie-if it is a big hit, could spin-offs work pretty quickly.
