I thought the “On the Wine” theme originally referred to grapes, so I started looking for sorting wine. When I didn’t find anything, I took a tip and got a plum. Then I found cherries. At this point, I thought we were looking for fruit (not that neither cherries nor plums grow on vines).
Penny – or should I say Plum – eventually fell when I saw Beefsteak and thought “it’s no fruit”. That said, two of these types of tomato were new to me as I hadn’t heard of either anniversary or lunch box.
All of this made me wonder what type of tomatoes people are throwing at each other at the annual La Tomatina festival in Spain, and the answer is a Valencian Pear-black that is overripe for extra softness. Rock up with some supermarket Cherry Toms and you will be forbidden for life.

What is new threads?
Strands is Nyt’s non-new-new-more word games after Wordle and connections. It is now a fully expanded member of Nyt’s Games Stable, which has been running for a year and can be played on the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
