Elon Musk Announces Xchat with Bitcoin-like encryption, BTC trades near $ 105K

Technical billionaire Elon Musk, the head of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla and SpaceX, announced the launch of a brand new Messaging app called Xchat on Sunday. Neither the BTC market nor the technical community is impressed.

One of the most important features of the new offer is that it is built in a programming language called Rust with encryption of Bitcoin style. Although it sounds exciting, the Crypto community is not very psychy, which raises doubts about what it exactly means.

“Bitcoin primarily uses signatures, not encryption. This is like saying we decided to run our rocket on water as NASA uses hydrogen and oxygen,” said Ian Miers, assistant professor of computer science at the University of Maryland, at X.

Encryption refers to the process of encrypting data so that only authorized parties with the right keys can loosen and read them. However, transactions performed on Bitcoin Blockchain are not encrypted but signed. In fact, all data shared between Bitcoin nodes is non -encrypted, enabling total strangers to interact with the network.

“Of course,” Bitcoin -style “and” Rust “are not descriptions of an encryption scheme, nor are they strong indicators of security for a messaging app. Unless encrypted DMs are only in app, odds are that they are not just in rust,” Miers said.

Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency with market value, traded flat near $ 105,000, after falling over 3% last week, according to Coindesk data.

Other key features of the new offer include end-to-end encryption, vanishing messages and the ability to send any type of file, including audio and video files, without a phone number across all platforms.
