A game with two halves today. After I got the first two groups pretty quickly, I hit a roadblock and saw no connection between the eight remaining words (I count coat rack as a word).
Quite firmly, I pressed Shuffle to see if it would give me any traces and selected a few random groups of four.
It was thinking visually that changed things when I imagined each topic. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you the name of the artist – but apple, bowler, cloud and tube were all things I imagined in a painted shape, and there are actually all things that repeat themselves in Magritte’s surreal paintings with umbrellas, candles and pigeons.
His most famous piece is The treachery of picturesbetter known for the expression during a painting of a tube that reads Ceci n’est passport une tube (This is not a tube). For a moment, I felt quite wise before I admitted myself that it was just a wild guess.
How did you do today? Tell me that in the comments below.

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
