- City registrations earthquake shaking for 4th day.
- Karachi is experiencing 26 earthquakes since June 1st.
- “Mild shaking can occur for another week”.
Karachi: Three earthquake rooms with intensity were labeled from 2 to 3.1 magnitude in the port city on Tuesday night, according to the Seismic Monitoring Center for Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
This marked the fourth consecutive day of seismic activity in the port city.
The latest activity has taken the total number of shaking that feels in Karachi since June 1 to June 26, the Seismological Center said.
Given the situation regarding the situation, chief meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari said that the mild shakes may occur for another week as the movement of tectonic plates continues.
Since Sunday, repeated mild tremors have marked the Karachis Landhi, Quaidabad, Malir and the surrounding neighborhoods, raising concerns among the residents. No significant damage or injuries have been reported.
Reason behind the shaking
The most important meteorologisthas attributed to the ongoing seismic activity for the activation of the Landhi error line, which he is currently underwent a normalization phase.
According to Haider, mild earthquakes can continue for up to another week as energy is gradually released from the error line. He explained that this slow release of energy helps prevent the risk of a larger earthquake.
“This particular error line has been activated after several decades,” he noted, adding that the shallow depth of the recent earthquakes is the reason why they feel more intense throughout the city.
Haiders emphasized that buildings located directly above the error line should be able to withstand the shaking of up to the order of 6. He also pointed out that the error lines running through Karachi have historically identified and documented.
In response to concerns about cracks developing in homes, Haider clarified that such problems are related to structural integrity and not necessarily linked to seismic activity.
He also mentioned the presence of another error line near Thana Bula Khan, which contributed to the overall seismic activity in and around Karachi.
