Kierston Russell, the twin sister to University of Alabama Freshman -quarterback Keelon Russell, died just days after the siblings were graduated from high school, police confirmed in a statement on Thursday. She was 18.
The TusCaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Confirmed Kierston’s passing in a statement and added that the investigation of her death is “running.”
“There has been significant media role in a death survey that took place (in Tuscaloosa) on June 4, 2025,” Captain Jack Kennedy of Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit said in a statement obtained by TusCaloosa News.

“After talking to the family and in an attempt to cushion media investigations, they have given permission to confirm Kierston Russell’s death … The study is in progress in accordance with the above-mentioned procedures, and at this point it appears to be non-criminal in nature. Therefore, no other information will be released at this time.”
Kierston played basketball at Duncanville High School in Texas. According to to ESPN, She was to join her brother in Alabama in August. The twins trained last month.

Keelon, a five -star recruits that signed up early and attended Alabama’s spring training, Shared photos of the two together and shared a prayer for his Instagram stories on Thursday.
“Dear God, thank you for any good and pleasant gift from above. You are the source of every blessing in my life -delicate health, my work, my relationship and the strength to meet every day. Even my ability to work and create comes from you. I acknowledge that all I have is a gift from your generous hand,” he reads.

Kierston’s basketball team also shared a statement about X after the news of her death.
“With broken hearts, we take care of the loss of our sister and teammate, Kierston Russell. A tough competitor with a heart of gold – her light, love and inheritance will live on. We love you, mugs. Always.”
