Eid Exodus overwhelms bus, train stations

The bus, and rail stations in the twin towns have become hugely crowded, as workers who are not native are leaving to spend Eid holidays with their loved ones in their hometown.

Exodus has led to a massive crowd on transport node, including Rawalpindi Railway Station, General Busstand Pir Wadhai and other smaller and larger transport terminals. Transportors took advantage of the situation by significantly increasing prices, which led to disputes and changes with passengers throughout the day.

Surprisingly, no special EID trains from Rawalpindi work this year, and there are no 20 percent reduced tickets as before. Passengers were informed that the discount would only be applicable in eid holidays and not before.

Carriers have increased prices by RS100 to Rs 150 for different routes, including Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Jhang, Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Martan and Kohat. Although the railway has reduced ticket prices by up to 20 percent for all trains, passengers have complained about being charged RS90 in excess. The ticket price from Rawalpindi to Lahore is RS1,140.

Trains from Rawalpindi to Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar are fully booked, with passengers struggling to secure seats. Those who couldn’t find seats on buses that went towards the railway station. Traffic of traveling crowds Rawalpindi and Chaklala railway stations, especially for those who go towards Karachi and Multan.

In addition, local transport, including buses and buses, have been redirected to long routes due to Eid, which has caused difficulties for people traveling within districts and nearby areas.
