The Chinese Electric Vehicle Electric Vehicle Manufacturer has announced its latest partnership with tech giant Huawei, which has created a new recording of the augmented reality head-up display or ar skin if you favor briefly.
Baptized the light-hunting panoramic display (makes it LCPD AR skin?), Projects the innovative setup a variety of colorful graphics on the windshield, which effectively transforms a driver’s field of view into an interactive canvas of light and animation.
While AR HUDs are nothing new, as both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche offer completed versions in them as S-Class and Panamera, Xpeng’s upcoming deals take things a little longer.
During a recent demonstration in China, the two companies revealed that the system can essentially cover an entire windshield or corresponding to a 2K resolution, 87-inch screen with a contrast ratio of 1,800: 1 and a brightness of 12,000 nits.
Xpeng and Huawei have joined forces to launch a brand new AR-HUD! This update debuts the industry’s first subsequent carpet function ever and delivers a more immersive and playful visual experience. To run just got much more fun. 😎 #hud #xpenghuaweiarhud #xpengg7 $ XPEV… PIC.TWITTER.COM/HFODJVCKSZJune 6, 2025
Videos that have emerged from a recent launch event reveal the system that runs under bad weather conditions, brilliant information about speed, correct course, upcoming navigation instructions and even traffic on the route directly to the entire span on a windshield.
Like the current systems, Xpeng and Huawei’s technology use colorful animations to show upcoming navigation directions, apparently ‘painting’ easy to follow blue lines on the way forward.
However, where the current technology shows this in front of the driver, it looks like Huawei can extend the said instructions all the way to the front passenger page, allowing different information to be dotted around the windshield in real time.
Analysis: A distraction too far?
Xpeng says the new system will debut at 250,000 yuan (about $ 35,000 / £ 26,000 / AU $ 53,000) G7 Electric SUV, which arrives later this year in China – though there have been no plans to roll it out to additional markets yet.
According to the selection, the lightweight panoramic display can warn of pedestrians coming into the road, upcoming track changes and warnings to approach vehicles from the sides and rear.
It is also said to help with fog and other adverse weather conditions, but the video examples used during the company’s live demonstrations look hectic … there is just so much going on.
The company says the system was developed using autonomous driving data covering millions of kilometers, according to car news China, which means it is predominantly designed for use when the vehicle takes over driving tasks.
But Xpeng also believes it can reduce driver’s distractions by negating the need to look at dashboard and central infotainment screens.
However, the idea of a windshield covered with information, colorful animated graphics and real -time warnings sounds a lot like a huge distraction to me.
