- Paid chatgpt subscribers get an improved voting state that is more human-like than before
- It can also handle live translations in other languages
- Some minor problems remain
All users of Chatgpt on paid plans (so it’s plus, pro, teams and enterprise users) just got a nice little upgrade to their advanced voting features that make it sound much more natural and human when it speaks to you.
Described by Openai as “significant” improves the improvements intonation and naturalness of the voices in Chatgpt’s advanced voice state. These are small adjustments, but it is often the small details that make all the difference in making a computer voice to sound realistic.
If you are listening carefully now, there is subtle intonation and realistic cadence in Chatgpt’s voice, and it has begun to include breaks to weight. It also feels more natural when it expresses emotions, whether it is empathy or sarcasm.
In addition to the improvements in voice quality, Openai has added better translation between language. Now you can say something in the direction of, “Can you translate this into Spanish?” And Chatgpt will translate everything you say to Spanish until you ask it to stop.
Apps that can do this, like Google Translate, already exist, but being able to do all this within the Chatgpt app on your phone is convenient and convenient.
Better than before
I have tried advanced voting mode after the update, and it certainly sounds different than before. You can get an immediate taste of what it sounds like by asking it to say something sarcastic. When you do, you hear the new tonal range chatgpt use and the way it uses breaks with great effect.
I compared this to asking Gemini live exactly the same thing, and the new chatgpt voice had certainly had a much richer expression of emotion.
It is also interesting to compare the voice quality of a chatgpt -free account with chatgpt on a paid accounts now – the difference is really like night and day.
Man or machine?
The new chatgpt is definitely more human -like, but I would not say that it has come to the level where it could trick someone that it was an actual human being.
There are still a couple of computer -like oddities that are getting started and again when you are in chatgpt using voting mode. In fact, Openai is aware of this and has issued a note about its limitations and says:
“When testing we have observed that this update can occasionally cause less decrease in sound quality, including unexpected variations in tone and pitch. These problems are more noticeable with certain voice options. We expect to improve the sound consistency over time.”
It also issued a warning about hallucinations:
“In addition, rare hallucinations continue in voice mode with this update, resulting in unintended sounds similar to ads, gibberish or background music. We are actively investigating these problems and working towards a solution.”
The upgrade is already live, just press the voice componist icon to the right of your message composer window inside the chatgpt app on your phone to make use of it.
