Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will come on November 20, 2026. The latest film adaptation of Suzanne Collin’s famous franchise will follow her latest novel arriving in booksellers in March.
And it shouldn’t be so surprising that the film is already on its way when Lionsgate ordered it before the novel was even released. While 2025 marked the return of Suzanne Collins infamous franchise, it comes five years after The ballad of songbirds and snakes And ten years after the head -time line Fun Games Trilogy.
For the fifth rate, it’s time to travel back to the 50th annual matches in Panem, also famously known as the second quarter Quell, where Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson in the trilogy) competed. Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping arriving at theaters on November 20, 2026. Yes, it can feel As a long way away, but given Suzanne Collins’ novel was first released in March, it is actually an incredibly quick turn. Much faster than the four years between the first Fun Games Roman’s publication and film adaptations release.
The release date was officially announced in a teaser clip from Lionsgate (shown above) depicting the songbirds and the snakes ready for another match. And at the end of the teaser Woody Harrelson’s voice coolly says: “I think these games will be different.”
And it has been confirmed that the role crew and crew will film later in the year, as revealed by director Frances Lawrence in an exclusive interview with Collider back in February: “We have kind of got a research phase of Prep. After London I will go on a scout and then we start to prize in April and we shoot this year.”

There is no official Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Trailer just yet. Given the film’s planned release date in November 2026, I can imagine that we will not see one before closer. When it looks like I will be sure to update and share this.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping The role is already filled with some big names that take on the younger versions of characters from the main franchise, as well as introduce new ones. Here’s who’s confirmed so far:

Before Hunger Games: Sunrise on the ReapingLike a prequel, there are a lot of roles from the main trilogy that will now be played by different actors completely. Take Jesse Plemons as a young Plutarch Heavensbee, previously played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, or Elle Fanning as Effie Treplet, previously played by Elizabeth Baths.
But according to instructor Frances Lawrence it was a young Haymitch to find the young Haymitch Fight Task to find an actor to take on the role of Woody Harrelson so famous. Set 24 years before The Hunger GamesCollin’s latest novel is of course the basis of the whole film, just as all her previous novels were.
For anyone who has already read the novel, you know what is happening. For anyone who doesn’t have it, we won’t spoil it.
What we can say is that Hunger Games: Sunrise at harvesting Following a young Haymitch Abernethy during his time competing in the 50th Hunger Games, known as the second quarter Quell.

Unlike the other films in Fun Games Franchise, however, we already know that Haymitch will survive with Woody Harrelson has so fantastic demonstrated in the trilogy.
But when he spoke to Themovierport.com at Cinemacon in April, director Francis Lawrence revealed that there is so much more to Haymitch’s story: “This is one of these books and stories where you get to see a character we all love, it is one of the icons of these movies, and to see what they have gone through. This big kind of Puzle.
And talk to Scholastic revealed Collins how she has used this story to explore deep concepts: “With Sunrise at harvestingI was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and in his words ‘the ease that they are controlled by the few.’
“The story also lent to a deeper dive in the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘real or not real?’ Seems more urgent for me every day.

Will there be more Hunger Games movies?
The answer to this question lies in asking from another – is Suzanne Collins to write more Fun Games novels?
Unfortunately we are not sure. In an interview with Variety, Collins’ long -time editor and publisher David Levithan said: “As for the future … I really have no idea.”
Fans have been eager after a Haymitch Prequel story but there are others Fun Games Characters’ prequel stories, like Finnick Odairs, which is still hopeful.
Director Frances Lawrence even told Entertainment Weekly before Sunrise on harvesting Release: “If Suzanne has a different thematic idea that she feels fit into the Panem world – whether with new people [or] Well -known characters [like] Finnick, Haymitch, the one – I really would be interested in looking at it and being part of it.
“But I have no trait just walking, ‘I would very much like to make Finnick’s games.’ He is a big character, but what are the thematic substructors that make it worth telling and relevant?
When it comes to the head Fun Games The series, however, made Levithan a conclusion: “I believe in the end of ‘Mockingjay‘Is the end of the series.’
He also revealed that Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Has been in the works since 2020, but it was only announced to the public in 2024. So if they silently work away on another prequel and ignite the hope of another film adaptation, I doubt we will hear about it soon.
