Cousins turned to his future with the team just weeks away from training camp, and after no trade went down, he looks forward to another probable year in Atlanta.

Falcons can still act cousins, but his words prove that he is ready to compete with Penix on the exit role again. But what was considered a mentor-mentee relationship between the two in training camp last season will be very different this time.
It was clear that Morris and the coaching staff did not trust cousins towards the end of the season, but Penix Wow also didn’t anyone to the point where he was to be considered Falcons’ starting in the camp.
He had a completion rate of 58.1% in his three starts while throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions over these games. And three games are a cup of coffee compared to what the cousins have been able to do in the league for the last 13 years.

Cousins came out of a torn Achilles, which he suffered from Minnesota Vikings in his campaign in 2023. It put a damper on what he was able to do with the franchise from 2020-22, throwing over 4,200 meters in each of these three seasons, and he earned two Pro Bowl-Niks in 2021 and 2022.
But he led the NFL in eavesdropping in 2024 (16), while throwing only for 18 touchdowns over 14 starts. Falcons went 7-7 during that time, while cousins threw themselves in 3,508 yards.
If Penix is the way Atlanta thinks in the form of a start -quarterback, it would be less to pay its backup that $ 27.5 million would be less than ideal. That said, Falcons would probably be proactive in moving cousins not to get that cap hit on the books.

That’s easier said than done, but maybe a seasonal ending injury for another team during the year could encourage a quick trade.
For now, however, cousins are focused on helping Falcons, no matter what role it will be.
