Christopher Wong, a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent and a leading figure in the agency’s cryptocurrency studies, has joined the blockchain in -law TRM Labs.

“Chris is not only one of the most talented and respected investigators in the world, he is also an inspiring colleague who makes everyone around him better,” Ari Redbord, Global Police Manager at TRM Labs, told Coindesk. “He has been a critical part of elite teams throughout his career and now brings the same expertise to our mission at TRM.”

During his ten years with the FBI, Wong worked on some of the most high stakes of crypto crime cases to date. He led the investigation of BitFinex Hack 2016, resulting in the biggest crypto attack in the US history $ 3,6 billion.

He also played a key role in investigating $ 600 million Axie Infinity Ronin Bridge overgrowth, which was linked to North Korea’s Lazarus group. The attack asked the first US sanctions against crypto mixing services and helped redefine how US agencies responded to cyber threats involving crypto.

One of Wong’s latest major cases with the FBI involved the tracking of $ 7.7 million in Krypto tied to North Korea’s IT workkeeper assembly schemes. His efforts revealed how operative counterfeit their identity to get jobs in the global tech industry, then stepped down earnings back to Pyongyang.

Wong now joins the TRM Labs as a global investigator for the purpose of helping to interfere with criminal crypto activity.

“I look forward to learning from Chris as he helps our clients and partners prevent illegal actors from exploiting transformative technologies,” Redbord said.
