Chace crawford could not throw the teen heartthrob -status he achieved on Gossip girl.
Crawford played the charming Nate Archibald in the show in the early 2000s and became an international hug.
However, his success became an obstacle in the way of more complex functioning roles. This went for years. Now the actor has made his comeback with a completely different role in The boyswhere he plays The deep.
“I felt I was in the desert for years after gossip girl,” said Crawford, 39, at Good guys Podcast. “Because I felt, you know, as big of a show as it was to get out of it as a young guy, it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s not cool anymore.’ “
“And I’m in this box now. I’m in this prison of like CW Pretty Boy, you know what I mean?” He said and noted that people thought he had no “reach”.
“I think people think … actors make a ton of more money and have far more agency than we actually do,” he noted.
Follow Gossip Girl, The actor struggled to land any cruel role as leaders couldn’t see him in another light.
“I was probably harder on myself than I needed,” he said.
Things changed when he came across the audition for the role of superhero, The deep, in The boysWhich is a dark comedy about the reality of having superheroes around.
“I just remember audition hit my inbox and read the synopsis, I was like, that sounds crazy,” he remembered. “And then read this pilot, I was like, ‘Oh, this is good and good. This is so out there and original and weird.’ “
“In the specific role of depth … I know that guy. You know I know a hundred of these guys, basically. So I immediately felt confident and excited about my ingestion of the character,” he gused.
“It was amazing. I was so happy to have another job that I was excited about and that the character was so different from everything I had done before,” concluded Chace Crawford.
