- Microsoft Edge has introduced a new password management feature
- The tool is available as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription
- Administrators now have more control over users’ credentials
Microsoft Edge’s new built -in business -oriented secure password installation feature has reached general accessibility.
This added browser function helps keep credentials secure by preventing passwords from sharing the wrong people – by accident or otherwise.
Secure password installation is now available to Microsoft Edge for business users across the M365 Business Premium, E3 and E5 subscription options.
Prevent ID of Legitimation
The safe password implementation tool allows users to auto-fill passwords on authorized sites to create a smooth login experience, but prevents users from seeing, editing, deleting and most importantly preventing the user from exporting their passwords.
“In many organizations today, employees often take to sharing passwords via Sticky notes or E emails. This not only exposes sensitive credentials to unintended recipients, but also increases the risk of the passwords being forwarded or abused,” Microsoft said in the announcement.
“Secure password installation allows administrators to implement encrypted shared passwords for a set of users in their organization. With this feature, users will receive the implemented passwords on their device and can smoothly log in to sites.”
Passwords stored in the safe password installation tool is encrypted using Microsoft Information Protection SDK and tied to a user’s entra -identity, allowing companies to enforce access control policies.
Administrators can use the tool to apply a lot of granular configuration to browser settings for individual users or user groups. Administrators can start using the tools by using the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to access the Edge Management Service and then configure an existing policy or create a new policy, then on the way to the Secure Password installation via the Customizer Settings tab.
“This integration brings the power of Microsoft’s data protection platform directly into the Edge Management Experience, giving administrators a trouble -free way of implementing credentials safely while adapting zero -confidence principles and compliance requirements,” Microsoft continued.
“By embedding protection SDK directly at the edge of business, we are expanding Microsoft’s data protection functions right to the end point – to ensure that sensitive information is protected against configuration for consumption.”
