- Supergirl: Tomorrow Woman have got a much cleaner and shorter title
- DC Studios Co-Chef James Gunn has confirmed the name change
- The superhero film is released in theaters all over the world in June 2026
Supergirl: Tomorrow Woman Is no longer the official name of the upcoming DC Commerce Film, James Gunn has revealed.
In a speech with Rolling Stone, DC Studios Co-chief Milly Alcock-starring films will now go with a much shorter title: Supergirl.
The surprise message came right at the start of Rolling Stone’s profile piece at Gunn, which was conducted as part of promotional campaign for the author’s/instructor’s upcoming Superman film. Asked by the interviewer if he could clarify what Woman tomorrow is mentioned as these days, paused Gunn before he said, “I think it’s just called Supergirl. “
Gunn used Superman’s next big screen excursion, which was originally called on the title. Superman: LegacyTo explain why Supergirl: Tomorrow Woman‘s name had been shortened.
“I always cut [down project titles]”Replied Gunn.”Inheritance was really – we [DC Studios] Do something called a premortem. A premortem is that you get together with your group doing the project. It’s usually about a few months before admission … [and] One of the things I brought up was, that [Gunn’s Superman movie] was [originally] called Superman: Legacy.
“Although I was the one who gave it that title, I just wasn’t sure,” Gunn continued. “First of all, I’m tired of the Superhero title, Colon, Other-Name Thing. It seemed to look back when we look forward, even if it has to do with inheritance in the movie itself. And everyone was like, ‘Oh, yes, no, change it.'”
Woman tomorrow but a title for today
It can pain some DC -Commerce Fans to learn about Supergirl: Tomorrow Woman‘s new, truncated with the title. After all, the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) films basically its eight-edition graphic novel names, created by cartoonist Tom King and drawn by Bilquis Evey.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, the renovation of DCU chapter 1 movie is the right decision. Supergirl Have a much cleaner feeling of it. For non-DC-comic devotions who do not already know that it will retell one of Kara Zor -‘s best stories in a live-action format, its new title maintains an air of mystery about what its plot will actually bring.
Then there is the fact that, unlike several iconic DC heroes including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, there have been only another Supergirl movie: 1984’s Supergirlwhich starred Helen Slater and is available for stream at max. So the prospect of confusing viewers with an identical title Flick over 40 years from the girl in Might’s Silver Screen debut should not be of great concern.
All in all I’m pretty happy about it Supergirl has dropped his subtitle. It certainly rolls off the tongue better than its former moniker but its title change means I will have to give mine Supergirl: Tomorrow Woman guide a major overhaul. Lucky me, eh?
Supergirl Taking flights in theaters all over the world on June 26, 2026.
