FO is looking for AGP’s opinion on the DR Aafia case

Islamabad:

The Foreign Office has sought a legal opinion from the Office of the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) regarding the Government of Pakistan’s assistance in the US Court regarding the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the case of the release and return of Dr. Siddiqui, currently imprisoned in the United States. Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s lawyer Imran Shafiq and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and officials in the Foreign Office appeared in court.

The court was informed that the Foreign Office had sought a legal opinion from the Law Attorney’s Office regarding the Government of Pakistan’s legal assistance in the US court regarding the release of Dr. Siddiqui.

The Attorney General’s Office requested the Court to grant 10 days to submit the government’s response to the court. The court accepted the request of the extra court law and gave a week’s time and postponed the hearing until June 25.
