Xbox is starting to talk about its next generation hardware seriously now that President Sarah Bond has announced a “strategic multi-year partnership” with tech giant AMD.
In a video uploaded to Xbox’s official YouTube channel, Bond emphasizes ‘Play Anywhere’ mantra, which is the core of the Xbox brand for the past few years.
“At Xbox, our vision is that you have to play the games you want with the people you want, anywhere you want,” explains Bond, adding that Xbox is now “investing in our next generation hardware set-up across console, handheld, PC, cloud and accessories.”

Bond says Xbox, by working with AMD, promises to “deliver the next generation of graphicsinnovation to lock a deeper level of visual quality and deepening gameplay and player experiences improved with the power of AI”.
‘AI’ is a buzzword that Microsoft likes to throw a lot, and it is understandable if the notion of it prevails on Xbox, you feel a little uneasy considering the increase in generative AI content in recent years.
In truth, the use of AI here is likely to boil down to useful technologies, such as dissolution of upscaling (as we see with PS5 Pro’s tailor -made PSSR) and frame generation for smoother performance in general. As such, we could see something similar to PSSR implemented on the next generation Xbox consoles.
As for handhelds, we have already seen the message of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, two game handhelds designed around playing Xbox Game Pass games on the go. Both are set to launch sometime in 2025, according to last week’s Xbox Games Showcase.
In better news, Bond also seems to confirm full backward compatibility with Xbox’s next generation, saying new hardware will maintain “compatibility with your existing Library with Xbox Games.” It is reasonably safe to assume that counting Xbox Series X | S -Games, although the jury stays out on Xbox One and Classic Xbox and Xbox 360 titles.
Eventually, the Xbox is sticking to the Windows ecosystem for its next generation of hardware. Bond confirms that Xbox “works closely with the Windows team to make sure Windows is the first platform for games.” So don’t expect a return to the iconic Xbox 360 ‘Blades’ dashboard that millions have a love for.
