- Meta and Oakley officially manufacture smart glasses
- They are based on Oakley’s HSTN -glasses design
- Launch later this summer they start at $ 399 / £ 399
It’s official. After a teaser earlier this week, Oakley and Meta have made smart glasses and as the owner of the almost two-year-old Ray-Ban Meta Smart Specs, I am green with envy.
Later this summer, six pairs of Oakley Smart Specs will be available in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland and several other European countries starting at $ 399 / £ 399 (we are still waiting for Australian price information).
Oakley Meta Hstn with limited edition (with gold accents and 24k Prizm polarized lenses) will be available for pre-order before-from July 11 for $ 499 / £ 499 (again, we are waiting for Australian prices).
Why am I jealous? Well, for a start, these smart glasses are set to boast a few important hardware and software upgrades over my rays.
First is an upgrade to the camera. Ray-Bans has a built-in 12MP snapper that can capture full-HD (1440×1920 resolution) video at 30 FPS. Meta promises that these Oakley specifications will detect Ultra HD (3K) video, maybe make them possible alternatives to the best action cameras for people who want to record their sporting stunts and look good by doing so.
Secondly, they will be able to detect longer with an increased battery life. My Meta Ray-Bans boasts a four-hour battery life for ‘standard use’. They can play music, Meta Ai can answer the strange question, and they have to last about this long; As soon as you start recording videos, drain their battery much faster
When the case is recharged them, the radiation lanes can reach up to 36 hours of total use.
Meta doubles the glasses’ built -in battery with its oakley and promises that they will last for eight hours of standard use and 19 hours if they are in standby. Meta adds that you can recharge them to 50% in just 20 minutes with their case and said the charging case lasts up to 48 hours of charge.

Finally, Metas AI will still be able to answer different questions to you and use the camera for context for your queries, which we have seen from Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, but it will also gain some new sports-related knowledge.
Golfers can ask about wind speed while surfers can control the surfing conditions, and you can also ask the glasses for possible ways to improve your sporting technique as well.
As with all these promises, we will test Oakley Meta Hstns for ourselves to see if they live up to the hype, but a way we can already see that they are distinguished on the design side.
Damn, these things are beautiful.

Interestingly, Oakley Spec’s Design Choice is an important detail that the leaks got wrong. Instead of its sphaera visor style shades, it’s Oakley’s HSTN glasses (I am told that it is pronounced how-stuhn).
These glasses look more like angular beam-Ban-Wayfarers-you know, one of Meta’s existing smart glasses design-but they boast of a serious design upgrade for athletes that you won’t find on Meta’s non-oakley specifications: Oakley’s prizm lenses.
Without getting too technical, Prizm lenses are designed to contrast increased to what you can see. There are different models for snow sports, cycling and other sports (as well as everyday use), but each is designed to highlight key information that may be relevant to the wearer, such as the contours of different snow coaches, or transitions in trail types and possible road hazards.
If Prizm lenses sound like excessive, you can also get a pair of transitional lenses or with clear lenses.

I swapped my always shady beam ban for a couple with transitional lenses and the difference is sharp. Because they are clear in darker environments and shaded in lighter weather, I have found it so much easier to use the transition lens couple as everyday smart glasses. In the past, I could only use my shaded couple in the sun, and it doesn’t come out too often here in England.
The complete list of Six Oakley Smart Glasses settings are:
- Oakley Meta Hstn Hot Gray with Prizm Ruby -Lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with Prizm Polar Black Lenses
- Oakley meta hstn brown smoke with prizm polar deep water lenses
- Oakley meta hstn black with transitions amethyst lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn ready with transitions gray lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with clear lenses

In addition to the style and lenses, a striking factor is that despite some serious battery upgrades, the framework does not seem massive chunky.
Like their Ray-Ban borders, they are clearly thicker than normal specifications, but they do not look too much as opposed to normal nuances.
All in all, these Oakley glasses look and sound really impressive. I chomping on bit to try a pair and if you’ve been on the fence to pick up the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, these improved options may be what convinces you to finally get some Ai-driven glasses.
