- RCS iinvitations are spotted inside Google -Messages
- They could encourage your contacts to turn on RCs
- So far the new invitations are not made available
RCS (Rich Communication Services) Standard calculated as a replacement for the older SMS (Short Message Service) is now available in Google messages for Android and messages on iPhone – and Google is eager for more users to sign up for it.
As it says, RCS is an opt-in upgrade inside Google messages so not everyone has it turned on. The team at Android Authority has seen hidden text in the latest version of the app that could be used to fool people to turn on RCS.
Text strings include “Invite this contact with RCS-Chat” and “We can share high quality media and send secure messages when we are both on RCS” so it looks like you can encourage your contacts to activate RCS with a few taps.
These messages are not live yet, but they are included in the app code so Google could activate them in the near future. It seems that a prompt about inviting someone to RCS is displayed if Google messages determine that they have not turned on.
Modern messages
If you have not yet enabled RCS in Google Messages for Android, you can do so by pressing your avatar on the chat list (top right), then Settings for messages and RCS chats: There is one Turn on for RCS -Chats Change Switch you can use.
RCS causes modern message features, such as reading revenue, proper group chat support and writing indicators – but everyone inside a chat should use RCS, otherwise everything falls back to the old SMS standard.
We continue to see upgrades to RCS inside Google messages also with the expansion of animated screens effects and, for example, media file control. Earlier this month, a snooze feature for chats was also rolled out.
With Android 16 now in the world, it shouldn’t be too long for Google messages to get its material 3 expressive update – the renewed look for Google’s mobile operating system that adds more color and emotions.
