Pakistan and UAE Sign Accords to increase investment and digital cooperation

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday signed an appointment morandum (Mou) on mutual exemption of the requirements for visa entrance, among other agreements during the 12th session of the Pakistan-Uae Joint Ministerial Commission held in Abu Dhabi.

The session became co -chair of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar and Uaes Foreign Minister and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two countries signed various agreements aimed at improving cooperation in areas such as investment, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, reported Radio Pakistan.

The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual understanding and fraternity, where both sides exchanged views on regional and international development. They confirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Among the results of the session was the signing of a protocol that establishes a procedural framework for follow -up actions, sectoral people and mutual visits.

This meeting, scheduled in October 2024, was the first session in JMC at 13 years. The last session took place in Islamabad from 6 to 7 November 2013. Dar had reached the UAE Monday to represent Pakistan.

Both delegations expressed satisfaction with the progress made and agreed to convene the 13th session of JMC in Pakistan on mutually agreed dates.

Prior to the official session, a preparatory working group of JMC under the leadership of special assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) met Tariq Bajwa and UAE Prime Minister Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.

Officials reviewed the full extent of bilateral connections and agreed on practical measures to expand cooperation in trade, banking, investment, energy, aviation, railways, food security, healthcare, climate change, higher education, defense, labor and information technology.

Both countries underlined the need to strengthen institutional mechanisms and promote interministrative coordination to ensure follow -up of joint initiatives.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited an official visit to UAE, where he met with UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues and confirmed their commitment to promoting cooperation.

The premiere also expressed his gratitude to the UAE for its constructive diplomatic role in facilitating tension between Pakistan and India and recognized the country’s broader efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
