KHAIRPUR:
The general inspector of prisons has suspended 15 prison officials, including superintendent and assistant superintendent in Khairpur Central Prison, following a deadly shooting attack on prisoners returning from court. An inmate was killed and two were injured in the incident.
According to prison officials, unidentified assailants opened fire on Tuesday in the prison’s adjacent connection when prisoners returned from a hearing. The prison police engaged the striker and managed to catch a suspect who sustained injuries during the exchange.
Two other guns escaped from the stage and remain largely where local police performed search operations.
Prisons IG Fida Hussain Mastooi has ordered Superintendent Abdul Ghaffar Chandio to report to the central police office while suspending him with assistant superintendent, customs, two main constables and seven constables.
Police have formed a three-member investigation committee led by you Prisons Malik Aslam to investigate security measures.
Initial investigations suggest that the attack was due to an earlier feud. Ig Mastooi warned that any staff who found negligent would face strict disciplinary action and emphasize zero -tolerance for security breaches.
