Ex-Senator ensures bail in the murder case

Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi, Majid Hussain Gadhi, Saturday approved bail on medical reasons for Chaudhry Tanveer Khan, a former senator of the Pakistani Muslim League-N (PML-N).

Tanveer was arrested in the murder case of Chaudhry Adnan, a former PTI MPA and ex-province parliamentary secretary. The court ordered its immediate release subject to the submission of two bail bonds worth RS1 million each which was immediately furnished.

Despite being under arrest, Tanveer was admitted to the Rawal Pindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) due to a serious heart disease, with a police guard stationed outside his hospital ward. Following the court’s approval of bail, prison officials and police personnel were withdrawn in accordance with the instructions of the Superintendent of Adiala Prison, which effectively restored the previous legislature’s status as a free citizen.

Chaudhry Tanveer had voluntarily surrendered on June 17 at the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench by withdrawing his guarantee application.

Police took him into custody from the courtroom and obtained a two-day physical custody, after which he was sent to the court department, but admitted to the hospital because of his heart disease.

He had been accused of having the conspiracy and planned the targeted murder of Chaudhry Adnan, who was shot near Police Line’s gate in Rawalpindi. FIR was registered on February 12, 2024 at Civil Lines Police Station and named Chaudhry Tanveer, Osama Chaudhry, Daniyal Chaudhry and Chaudhry Changez as suspect.

Under the guarantee hearing, the Court noted that evidence of assertion of conspiracy was inadequate, which led to the approval of bail. The defense was led by lawyer Malik Waheed Anjum, while the Co-Council Chaudhry Yasir Advocate stated that the surrender was volunteered to ensure a fair and transparent investigation and they would continue to pursue the case to prove their client’s innocence.

On the other hand, the complainant’s lawyer’s lawyer, Shehzad Bhatti, announced that the guarantee decision would be challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).
