Karachi:
Metropolitan City threw itself into a single spell of Monsun showers as the streets of the cities and spawns threw themselves into decay after the rainfall. Widespread water stagnation and flooding sewers left residents struggling to commute, with many neighborhoods submerged and reeking of bad odor.
The bourgeois infrastructure seems to have tense under pressure as the administration of all 25 cities could not provide timely relief. Hings with unified waste scattered in several neighborhoods have again laid the inefficiency of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB).
While major throughput roads did relatively better, the streets of the city were raining with the rain. In several sites, roads either threw in or suffered extensive damage due to waterproof. Reports from Korangi Town indicated an alarming situation where roads in Qayyumabad were severely damaged and parts of the streets collapsed. Similar scenes witnessed in Shah Faisal Colony, Mahmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Admin Society, Old City Area, Gullhan-E-Iqbal, New Karachi, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Baldia Town and Orangi Town, where the lane has become almost impossible due to destroyed surfaces and stagnant Rainwater.
In the meantime, large piles of garbage in Gulberg, Nazimabad and parts of Malir were seen, which further aggravated the situation. The rain not only exposed the poor readiness of municipal authorities, but has also brought a huge difficulty for the residents – just like Metropoli’s harnesses for more rain with the Monsun season, which is expected to continue until September.
Model Colony made an example
Liaquat Ali Khan Road in Model Colony has become a sharp example of Karachi’s crumbling infrastructure. Years of delay in development projects, lack of coordination between bourgeois agencies and the recent rain has transformed the once Busy way into a vrak. A section of the road threw itself after recent graves for gas pipeline installation of Sui Southern Gas Company. The collapse was further aggravated by the breakdown of the sewer system and flooded the street with stagnant, dirty water.
