- The company’s first robot wacuum is apparently called Dji Romo
- Both Romo and its docking station are depicted in leaked image
- Rumors claim that it will sweep and mop using advanced obstacle
DJI is best known for its drones, gimbals and action cameras, but the Chinese company has branched into other late areas. Last year, for example, it made a surprising movement into e-bikes and now it seems to be ready to launch its first robotic vacuum cleaner.
We first got a glimpse of a rumored DJI cleaner back in late May, with a leaked photo from @ositalv showing a palette of boxes carrying a picture of a vacuum and docking station and the name “Dji Romo”.
And now a new picture seems to show the device in the meat. Or at least plastic. Serial Tech Leaker Igor Bogdanov has sent a grainy spy shot of what seems to be DJI Romo inside its docking station.
And although he offers a little in the way of information besides the picture, we can download one or two exciting information about designs from the image.

An no-style design?
The most obvious and striking styling touch is perhaps the fact that both the vacuum and the docking station appear to have a transparent outer house that reveals much of the inner work and chambers. And we think that the white and gray coloring of the non-transparent parts together with some orange accent elements are also very stylish and eye-catching self-self it is of course a subjective case.
Unfortunately, we do not learn much about DJI Romo’s potential capabilities, specifications or features of this leaked photo, but earlier speculation has suggested that it will boast both mop and vacuum functions, automatic self-emptying and powerful obstacle to obstacle.
DJI’s drones are well known for their excellent obstacle-docked talents, and recent releases use both vision and Lidar technology to spot and navigate around potential dangers, even under low light conditions. The Romo could use similar technology to avoid furniture, pets and other obstacles as it cleans your home.
If Romo is real and we have a strong suspicion that it is, it can represent the most exciting new addition to the robot vacuum market in some time. DJI can sense that this market, which is not yet dominated by a single manufacturer, may be ripe for disturbance.
We will bring you more updates about Romo when we get them, but be sure to check out our best robot vacuum guide to see what it could be to find yourself to compete against.
