Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue across parts of Pakistan as moist streams from the Arabian Sea and Bengalbugt interact with a western wave over the top regions of the country, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Thursday.
According to PMD, rain winds/thunder wind are likely to affect upper and southern Punjab, the Potohar region, southeastern Sindh, northeastern and southern Balochistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the capital, partially cloudy conditions with rain winds/thunderstorms are expected both on Thursday and Friday with a 40% probability on both days.
Heavy rain is possible in isolated places in the top Punjab and southern Balochistan on Thursday. On Friday, the heaviest rainstorms are expected to change against Kashmir and southern Balochistan, the agency said.

In Sindh, mainly hot and humid weather is expected for most districts, although Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas can experience scattered rain and thunderstorms. Karachi and other coastal areas can also receive light rain both Thursday and Friday.
In Punjab, rain winds/thunderstorms/thunder winds with isolated tongue are expected strongly in scattered places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Mandi, Mandi Bahauddin, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Surrounding Areas.
On Friday, similar conditions are expected in the same districts, excluding Rahim Yar Khan,
At least 64 people have died and 117 others were injured due to flash flooding and in rain-related events over Pakistan over the past week, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said Wednesday.
The highest number of fatalities were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 23 people were killed, including 10 children
Monsoon Alert issued
In a press release issued on July 2, PMD had warned that monsoon activity would be intensified from the evening of July 5, with a Western wave that is expected to approach upper parts of the country before July 6.
According to this advice, tongue to very heavy rain is likely to cause flooding of flash in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Dir, SWAT and Kohistan as well as parts of Islamabad, Rawal Pindi and Northeast Punjab from July 5 to 8.
PMD also warned of urban floods in low-lying areas in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, Nowshera and Peshawar between July 6 and 8, while landslides and Mudslides are possible in Hilly Region’s Region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The department advised farmers, travelers and local authorities to remain vigilant and take preventative measures and add that weak structures and advertising boards could also be vulnerable to damage under heavy wind and heavy rain.
