- Rumors come in the middle of mass layouts on Microsoft
In the midst of lots of redundancies at Microsoft, the company has insisted that Gaming Managing Director Phil Spencer does not retire with “anytime soon”.
Yesterday the company announced that it would make rapid changes across its studios, which has resulted in massive job cuts that have seen at least 9,000 employees affected, as well as many game cancellations, including Perfectly darkAt Everwildand the unannounced MMO from Elder rolls online Studio.
After the major redundancies, rumors also began to circulate that the head of Xbox is also set to retire, with Call of Duty Leaker Ghostofhope claims that “Phil Spencer retires from his role as CEO of Microsoft Gaming after the launch of the next generation Xbox” and that Sarah Bond, current Xbox president, would take over the role.
However, Microsoft has now arrived and refused these claims and insists that Spencer remains in his role for presumably a good while.
In a statement to The Verge, Kari Perez said, head of Xbox Communication, “Phil doesn’t go back soon.”
Whether this means that Spencer does not retire, the statement is quite vague with regard to the rumors. There is also no official word from Spencer although his future plans.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Communications Chief Frank Shaw also went to X / Twitter to respond to the rumors and claimed they were composed.
The next Xbox console is reportedly scheduled to release in 2027 and is now “fully in production”.
