- More redundancies are in progress on Xbox
- Perfectly dark Develops the initiative has been closed on top of other spills and cuts
- Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said Xbox “has never looked stronger” in an E email to staff
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer claimed that the Xbox “platform, hardware and game schedule have never looked stronger” in the middle of a study ending, game dancing and widespread layoffs.
As reported by Bloomberg, Microsoft’s gaming department has been affected by significant redundancies. This includes job cuts at Mobile Game Maker King, Zenimax, Rare, Halo Studios and Turn 10 Studios.
The upcoming rare game Everwild has apparently been removed, like an unannounced game from Elder rolls online Develops Zenimax Online Studios. The planned Perfectly dark Restart is also preserved, with the study behind it, the initiative, shut down.
In an E email sent to staff, Spencer said these decisions were intended to “place games for sustained success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas” plus “increase flexibility and efficiency” in general.
“I acknowledge that these changes are coming at a time when we have more players, games and game hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware and game schedule have never looked stronger. The success we are currently seeing is based on tough decisions we have made in the past,” he continued.
These “hard decisions” presumably include previous study closures and redundancies, such as the shuttered Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Games, Roundhouse Games and Tango GameWorks last year.
“We must now make choices for continued success in the coming years, and an important part of this strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what thrives and concentrate efforts in areas with the greatest potential while delivering the expectations that the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver unusual games and experiences for players in generations.”
