The 8th of Muharram is held mourning processions and religious gatherings (Majalis) of Punjab, including Lahore, with great reverence and solemnity.
A large number of grieving, including women and children, participate in these memorials, pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions and reflect on the tragic events of Karbala.

Strict security events have been implemented to ensure Muharram processes and Majali’s peaceful behavior. According to data provided by the Punjab Home Department and the police authorities, over 58,000 police officers and staff have been deployed throughout the province, along with more than 27,000 volunteers in the community, maintaining order.
In Lahore alone, over 3,600 police officers have been assigned security tasks. A total of 86 grief processes are being taken out in the city today, while 416 Majalis is planned.
The central procession of the 8th Muharram in Lahore was taken out of the Imambargah Darbar Hussain, located inside Mori Gate, which drew a large crowd of grieving.
The symbolic “Shabeeh-E-Zuljanah” process will follow its designated route and is expected to reach Imambargah Agn-Ul-Raza in Old Anarar in the evening.
Province-providing a total of 1,365 processions and 3,940 mayalis today. Through 10 ten days of Muharram, safety across Punjab remains on high alarm.
Authorities use CCTV monitoring, drone monitoring and other modern security tools, especially in sensitive areas.
The administration has called on citizens to cooperate with law enforcement staff and immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
