After last week’s TV show-heavy streaming list, it’s time for their cousins on the big screen to take the limelight.
Four big new films have adorned some of the world’s best streaming services ahead of this weekend (July 4 to July 6), so it will be an independence day to remember for movie fans in out. We’ve rounded off this week’s streaming recommendation list with a couple of TV series and a sporting event – yes, we cover them from time to time! – So there’s plenty to see at home for the next few days. – – Tom Power, Senior Entertainment Reporter
The Old Guard 2 (Netflix)
Look at
One of the best Netflix movies from an action point of view finally has a follow-up. The long awaited The old guard 2 has arrived in Netflix to take us on a brand new high octan mission.
In our review of The old guardAt We noticed that its hokey-but-entertaining prerequisite for a team of immortal warriors that have protected the world for centuries created for good side-facing comics, but did not translate exactly into the small screen. This consists of an incredible lead performance from Charlize Theron, who has returned to the sequel along with some new characters to fight a mysterious threat.
Despite the original movie that becomes an immediate hit, early reviews do not look as favorable to the sequel – though it seems that everyone agrees that Theron’s action sequences are a highlight of one of July’s new Netflix films. – Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor
Sinners (Max)
Look at
Good news, the incredible Sinners Now streams at max. Sorry, though, British fans, you’ll have to wait a little longer for his streaming debut.
A shoo-in to our best max movie list, Sinners Not only has an impressive 97% rotten Tomatoes Critical Score, but it has also been celebrated all over the world by everyday audience. Ryan Coogler, known for his work with the two Black Panther Movies and Ironheart For Marvel has created something really special here.
The supernatural horror period pieces follow Twin Criminal Twin Brothers (both played brilliantly by Michael B. Jordan), who returns to their hometown and confronted with a supernatural evil. It is an absolute must watch and is a real competitor to this year’s horror film. – – Lucy BuglassSenior Entertainment Writer
Heads of State (Prime Video)
Look at
If Idris Elba doesn’t want to be in a James Bond movie, he can at least be the British Prime Minister. He literally goes head-to-head with John Cena’s US President Will Deringer in one of July’s new Prime VideoFilm in Heads of Statealso. Until they are forced to work together when the Air Force One is shot down on enemy territory.
Based on Amazon’s previous track record with Prime Video Movie Originals, expectations of Heads of State Was so low that we didn’t expect it to be a shoo-in for our best prime video film list, but it’s blown away. It’s stupid, but funny stupid, and there’s a natural chemistry between our leading men who are hard missing in other 2025 releases. Obviously, everyone involved has a nice time, so why shouldn’t we? – – Jasmine Valentine, streaming staff writer
Sandman Season 2 (Netflix)
Look at
I really looked forward to season 2 of Sandman Until several accusations were made against Neil Gaiman, aka the author of the original graphic novel series it is based on.
Given how good Sandman Season 1 was, it is a crying shame that the High-Fantasy series reputation has been spotted by the man who created his literary namesake. It may have booked a place in this week’s streaming guide but ii won’t tuning in to see Sandman Season 2, and I suspect many others will not in principle either.
Still, if you plan to watch the last season of one of the best Netflix shows (yes, it was until Gaiman-Gate anyway), its first six episodes are out now. Five more chapters arrive on July 24 to bring Netflix’s live-action adaptation to close. – – TP
By becoming a Guinea chickens (Max)
Look at
A24 has a habit of releasing bangers flying under the radar including Earth mammary and All Dirt Road Taste of Salt. Tipped as one to look at the film festival in 2024, film festival, By becoming a guinea pigOne of three new A24 films that land at Max in July is next on line. Seen in Zambia follows the black comedy Shula, who finds his uncle’s dead body in the middle of the road late at night.
To find the fun in something deadly serious, By becoming a guinea pig exploring timely social issues in an expressive and meaningful way. The classic predator versus swap analogy is core, framed through impeccable visuals and a sharp story. If you want to watch Global Cinema that still feels available, one of July’s new Max movies is the perfect choice. – – JV

Look at
Netflix has been shining a light on several tragic events recently, including the surprisingly well made Oceangate Documentary and eye opening Grenfell Uncovered. Now they focus on 7/7 bomb attacks that took place almost 20 years ago.
Told from several perspectives, this documents resume the moment four bombs exploded in London, killing 52 people and wounding more than 700, and the week’s long search for those responsible.
