- AMDS RDNA 4 GPUs aren’t even in Steam’s top ranked graphics card
- Nvidias Blackwell GPUs that on the other side are throwing forward
- Nvidia’s GPUs also outsales Amd on Amazon, and it starts to feel like Team Red is fighting for a losing match – which is not good news for consumers
When July begins, we have a few sets of GPU figures to digest: the steam hardware survey and the rankings for top-selling graphics cards at Amazon in the United States. And it seems that these are worrying times for AMD.
First, let’s look at Steam’s study for last month (June), where Nvidia’s Blackwell GPUs (introduced from the start of this year) are doing much better than the newcomer RDNA 4 graphics card from AMD.
As Toms Hardware noticed, Nvidia now has 3.7% of steam players running its Blackwell GPUs, which includes 0.99% to own an RTX 5070 (the top artist), with 0.55% using an RTX 5070 TI. Even the mighty (and mighty expensive) RTX 5090 has now registered in Steam’s location, albeit near the bottom, by 0.19%.
Considering its price, the Blackwell flagship is of course a very niche Proposition for players – and yet it is ahead of the RX 9070 XT that does not have sufficient market share to even register for Valve’s location.
In fact, the same is the case for each model of AMD’s new RDNA 4 series, none of which is present in the June study. (They are all with the ‘other’ category that represents the 8% of GPUs that do not have enough share to be registered – less than 0.15%, to be precise).
Make on to Amazon’s sales figures, as provided by regularly delicious Techepiphany on X (highlighted by WCCFTech). This is a less extreme image for AMD, but still a worrying one.

Fortunately, the RX 9070 XT is not quite from the radar here as it is on steam. Nor would I expect it to be – previous reports from retailers (spices used) have indicated that it has changed from the shelves at a quick enough pace. However, in the Amazon (USA) sales statistics for June, AMD GPU is still behind its large Nvidia rivals.
The best -selling graphics card at Amazon in June was NVIDIA RTX 5070 with 5,450 units, followed by RTX 5060 TI (4,950 units) and RTX 5070 Ti were in third (4,400). The RX 9070 XT is the fourth most popular GPU with 3,800 devices sold, but other RDNA 4 models are far away from the pace (Vanilla RX 9070 sold only 850 and didn’t even do the top 10).
In general, Nvidia is to hoover 70% of sales (and almost 80% of revenue, which is not surprisingly given some of Blackwell’s weighty price tags), and AMD has to be left to a certain extent.
Analysis: Bad news for consumers
Okay, so RX 9070 XT doesn’t sell anything in any way, we know. But it sells 15% less than the rival RTX 5070 ten, at least by passing these June numbers from Amazon (again, adding salt). It must be kind of annoying to team red.
This is an AMD GPU that offers much the same level of benefit as 5070 TI (DLSS 4 aside) – at 9070 XT’s image speeds has been significantly strengthened in recent times due to Radeon -driver improvements – and you still pay much more for the NVIDIA graphics card. As we discussed yesterday, the value proportion for 9070 XT is a lot stronger at the moment and it seems to be a good time to buy GPU. Remember that all this is thrown on the basis of Nvidia’s technical fumbles with its RTX 5000 series, and a whole load of driver -standers that have thrown a gloomy cloud over Blackwell.
So honestly, it’s totally confusing that the RX 9070 XT has not yet signed up for the GPU locations for the Steam study. I mean, I can only imagine that this AMD graphics card is just right by the chart, and by making it maybe next month – even then it would still be very slow to go (if it happens). Especially when you are considering it, as mentioned, even the stupidly peppered RTX 5090 in the ranking is now.
All this seems pretty confusing in many ways, and of course it’s bad news for consumers. RDNA 4 is a large selection of graphics cards where the RX 9070 XT is a strong artist. And yes, given, the real world prices have not been so close to its MSRP, which is disappointing, but also the RTX 5070 TI-and AMD GPU is currently a much better value proposition.
So what gives? I honestly don’t know, but hope it burned quite violently by AMD, who finally takes Turf back from Nvidia on the Desktop GPU wars that now seem to die down.
Of course, we can’t write off RDNA 4 yet in any way. It has just begun to feel that AMD has a steep or even almost vertical, climbing to start getting back on par with Nvidia to meaningfully challenge Team Green’s long-term dominance of the GPU world. Despite all the problems around Blackwell, Nvidia does not appear to break steps, and especially its sales of mid-range graphics card-rtx 5070 and 5070 ten bees to gather more pace.
