Heavy rain kills four in KP as NDMA warns of more monsoon flooding

At least five people, including two women and two children, were killed and four children were injured in separate rain-related events as Flash floods swept over Khyber-Paktunkhwa, according to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

District Authorities and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have issued a fresh warning of flash and river floods in parts of the country due to moderate to heavy monsoon forecast between July 6 and July 10.

Heavy rain and flooding of flash have required at least 21 lives – including 10 children – in KP since the Monsun season began last month. According to PDMA, 14 died of the deceased in the Swat Valley, where Flash River swept families gathered near a riverbank.

In his latest report, issued on Sunday, PDMA stated that five people, including a man, two women and two children, were killed and that the fourth others were injured in rain -related incidents throughout the province.

The provincial authority said at least one house was completely destroyed and three others were partially damaged due to heavy rain and flooding water. These events took place in the districts of Buner, Mohmand and Charsadda.

A PDMA spokesman said district administrations have been instructed to provide immediate assistance to affected families and ensure the best possible medical treatment of the wounded.

Flood warning issued

According to the National Emergecy’s Operation Center (Neoc), the current weather system is operated with moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea together with a prevailing Western wave.

Heavy rain is expected in central and northeastern Punjab, Lower Sindh, Central KP, Balochistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rivers Indus, Chenab and Kabul are likely to see rising water levels, with low flood already observed in Tarbela, Kalabagh and Chashma.

Flash floods also fear in the side elves SWAT, Panjkora, Jhelum, Chitral and Watercourse from Pir Panjal and Kirsthar Ranges, especially affect districts such as Awaran, Khuzdar and Jhal Magsi.

Residents of vulnerable areas have been asked to stay aware, avoid flooded routes and move valuables to higher soil. City administrations have been asked to ensure that drainage machinery is in place.

NDMA said it remains in contact with provincial and district authorities and urged citizens to follow official advisers and use the disaster alarm app for real-time updates.
