Dera Ghazi Khan:
Heavy rain in Koh-E-Suleman, Taunsa, Fort Munro, Dera City and the surrounding areas cause a flood-like situation due to excessive influx of water in different river flows.
According to a Report from the Irrigation Department, Kora River Stream has a power of 17,570 CUSSCS, Vehova has 20,805 CUSSCS, SUNGHAR HAS 11,540 CUSSCS AND SORI LUND HAS 29,270 CUSSCS. The Waddor River Stream has a high level of flooding of 40,611 CUSERCs and Sakhi Sarwar has an extremely high level flooding of 32,570 CUSERCs, while Mithan has 6,001 CUSCS.
DG Khan District Administration has been set on high alarm after predictions of further heavy rain from Pakistan Meteorological Department. In the event of potential floods, the staff have been deployed at mountain passes to continuously monitor the rivers.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid visited Waddor Spillway, where officials informed him of the river’s water capacity, drainage, protective dams and other key issues. He said heavy rain in Koh-E-Sulaiman and Balochistan mountain ranges could lead to flooding in the district, which affects seven large rivers and pose a risk of nearby settlements.
DC ordered all relevant departments to remain on high alarm, ensure the approval of river routes, removal of intervention and public attention.
